Anna Herman Has designed clothes all her life . About 19 years ago she started working with hemp. Anna Had a retail store in Missoula, selling vintage clothes then she put in some of her originals made from recycled vintage fabric they sold, she made more. She Started selling on line about 12 years ago. She has a degree in Fine Arts & is from McLean Va, The DC area. Anna Went to Pilchuck glass school in the Great NorthWest where she learned a lot about design. Anna loves vintage & gets good ideas from old things. She has a zest for life which reflects in her clothes. Anna is sophisticated ,well traveled & has knowledge on many subjects, thats partly what makes her such a great designer.Anna now lives in Montana with Carl Herman. The sewing studio is the upstairs in an old mansion. She has lots of recycled goodies just asking to be made into something new . Anna Herman uses Hemp,Organic Cotton (grown in America), & other natural fibers . She has a line of interior goods as well as the clothes . Anna want to reduce the toxins in the home & encourages people to use less plastic.
4 years ago Anna started the Green ECO Show . Which is an ECO Fashion Show made into a video. She likes to show other green fashion designers as well as her own. www.greenecoshow.com Her campaign "Changing How The World Shops" has guidelines for simple things others can do to help.
As a child Anna would dress the cats, then in her teens she would alter her Mom's clothes . They were more sospistocated than what girls her age wore. Pretty soon she started thrift shoping . In college she was an average student. After finishing she met Diane Weinmen at a junk sale. Diane taught her how to pick for vintage shops. Georgetown, Washington DC. had a great influnence on young Anna. Diane & Anna's favorite game was Date that Pattern.Diane Said Anna Picked up the vintage clothes scene faster than anyone she had ever seem.
Anna got into her first shop with her orginals up Wiscousin Ave.At 29 she moved to Seattle where she met the Tall Handsome Canadian Carl Herman at the Midway Swapmeet. Carl went to do an Antique show in San Francisco. He wore one of Anna's creations. It was a long sleeve shirt with The Marx Brothers on it, from Vintage Fabric . Everyone wanted to know where he got that . They kept trying to buy it . Anna Used to take vintage clothes that weren't selling & add some rinestones or somehow alter them. They sold everytime . Wanting a change the Herman's moved to Montana. Anna opened a vintage store in Missoula. Her manager would chat up a few orginals she had put in . They sold . She made more then, turned the vintage store into Anna Herman's where she sold all her own designs. The stores were fun & good for awhile. Then the box stores hurt sales & she moved away from Missoula. After trying a short lived store in Butte, Anna started selling hemp yoga pants on Ebay. They sold amazingly well & still do. Anna has always been good at womens clothes but her men's line counts for 60% of her sales. Men are a big part of the Green Movement. The Men's shirts especially her Cowboy shirts are wonderful.Anna's Favorite Designers are Nudie,Arte' & Elsa Schiaprelli.
Anna Has seen many bad things done to the Environment by the established Garment Industry. She is against Sweatshop labor, slave wages & the toxins put in the fabric. Hopefully she will beable to change some of these things with help from her customers & other like minded designers. |
